Introduction to Real Work for Long-Term Unemployed Women

Objectives

  • To provide a real work trial for long-term unemployed women
  • To help the participants improve their work skills in administration, reception and general office areas
  • To mentor participants into work ethics and behaviour, that will assist them in future employment seeking

WHISE will work with service organisations and support services to provide this program under contract to the clients identified by the organisation.

Target Client Groups

  • Long term unemployed women - based on the advice of the Client.

Service Outline

  • Identify with the Client long-term unemployed women who may be able to benefit from this program
  • Undertake an initial assessment with each participant, to determine interests, current skill level, and understanding of work requirements
  • Provide a structured two-week program of work experiences at WHISE, across a range of administrative and reception task
  • Based on the outcomes of this two-week program, provide a six-month placement at WHISE for further employment preparation - this placement to include a formal position description detailing work requirements and confidentiality and privacy requirements

  • Encourage participants to join in training and education opportunities at WHISE, within the constraints of the work program
  • Assist the participants to identify the next steps in employment or education opportunities
  • Assist the participants to prepare job applications and provide practice in undertaking interviews
  • Provide a statement of participation at the end of the six month program, showing the competency reached in the program tasks.

WHISE reserves the right to terminate the Work Trial of any participant who seriously breaches confidentiality and privacy requirements, or consistently refuses to work within the Work Trial requirements.

  • Development of work ethic and work behaviour appropriate to work requirements
  • Improved skills and ability in administrative and reception tasks
  • Improved confidence in being a member of a workforce
  • Understanding of team work, and improved ability to work with others
  • Improved technical skills in office equipment
  • Improved ability to greet clients and members of the public

Fees

  • Assessment and development of program for specific client needs $500 per client
  • After completion of the two week trial, a further six months’ experience at WHISE, with wage subsidy from the Client organisation
  • Up to three Work Trial participants at any one time
